Who's (still) afraid of MMR?

With the fallout from the MMR scare still with us, this programme on BBC Radio 4 is a timely reminder of the issues. “Science betrayed” indeed, but by whom? The full story is societal as much as it is biomedical. Anyway, listen while you still can.

  1. Tell us Phil, when you contribute an article in a science journal, are you invited to write on a subject matter decided by the journal, or are you free to advance your ideas?

  2. Both, or rather, either - sometimes I'll be commissioned to write on a particular topic, and sometimes I'll have pitched the idea myself.

  3. Do they pay the same?

  4. That depends on the journal, not on how the piece came about.

  5. Was Wakefield wrong, to accept monies from pressure groups, to proceed with his research?

Sorry to get you via this way, but the contact form on your website is not working properly (tried several browers and cpus). What is the best way to write you? I'm interested in asking a question about music cognition.
