I have a little piece on the BBC Focus site about the work of sculptor Peter Randall-Page , with whom I had the pleasure of discussing pattern formation and much else at Yorkshire Sculpture Park last month. I will put an extended version of this piece on my web site shortly (under ‘Patterns’) in which there are lots more stunning pictures of Peter’s work and natural patterns.

Why do I like this?
I'm familiar with other artistic initiatives that co-opt natural forms - but there's a subtle difference here. My immediate (intuitive) assessment is that these sculptures go beyond mere mimicry of nature. They have been simplified and, faced with nature, simplification is an entirely appropriate response.
Blimey, I think that has gone way beyond the help of Preparation H.
